Back to Reality

Living as I do, in the real world, many of the things we are 'supposed' to wear just don't quite cut it. How lovely the models looked in the magazine I read annoucing that 'cool clean lines and pastel hues' were THE thing this season. Being unable to leave the house without snot or cereal on me somewhere, the pastels stay in fantasy world. I do own a pair of white jeans which I wear on occasion, largely as a challenge to myself to see if they can still remain wearable beyond lunchtime. On holiday my children did not tell me that I returned to the buffet in a full hotel restaurant, with a peppa pig sticker on my backside. This does not happen to people who wear 'cruise wear' or 'sports luxe'.
I have at last done what I was told and 'invested' in a mac. I looked at the expensive ones in the magazine, looked at less costly but still dry clean only ones in the high street, then went for a machine washable one. Just as well as I got mud on it today, its first outing. One of those classic things, but yet I have never been quite convinced enough.
Wearing a mac I feel somehow like i should be more stern, or maybe a bit more grown up, and the double breasted front meant that the mud was hidden once the coat was buttoned up! It has even given me a waist after childbearing and being a busy mum has left me, unusually, without the expected curves.
